The Gunslingin’ Burger
“Food is the greatest art, as it uses all five senses to enjoy it; sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste”
-Chef Jeremy Haymes
I have always had a love for food. It has been a passion of mine since I learned to cook at a young age. Food is something that we all need everyday. But why does food have to just be meal that we have to eat…when it can be so much more.
All I have ever wanted to do was to create food that people enjoyed to eat. When I see a smile on someone’s face or the joy in their eyes, when they eat something that I created, then all the time and work that went into prepping, cooking, and plating, is far worth it.
I studied at Pulaski Tech Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute in Little Rock. I have cooked and ran many kitchens, but it was always my dream to have my own kitchen and restaurant. The Gunslingin’ Burger was in development for over two and half years, before the first meal was even sold.
The idea for The Gunslingin’ Burger, started with the first location that I was looking at. It was a food truck, that looked like a barn. I know appearance is everything, so if we could have took advantage of the barn aesthetic, then why not go with an old west theme. It was the fact that I wanted to create food and burgers that no one has ever seen or thought of before, is how the saying, “There’s A New Sheriff In Town”. I wanted to have my food stand out, not only as different burger ideas, but also as the best tasting burger. All the flavors are carefully picked and placed to bring the best and most flavor forward. Nothing is considered a “gimmick”, not even when I put a banana on a burger.
We got the building in June 2020. From there is was a two month renovation to get to the point that we are now. We are not completely finished decorating or re-designing. This is a journey. I am happy with how far we have come. I always wanted my own restaurant, but I would never have believed you, if you would have told me that I would have it when I was 25.
Though, I do not take all the credit, as there were many people pushing me forward to keep my passion alive. Above all my family and friends, it was God who kept me moving forward. God finally gave me my restaurant, and I gave it back to him. I would not be where I am today, if it wasn’t for him.
In the end, if I can make one person a meal that is more than just a meal a day, what else could I ask for. Food is the greatest art, as it uses all five senses to enjoy it; sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste.
Thank you for making this a dream come true.
